A Week in the Outback

As so many Australian families do in summer holidays, we decided to pack up the truck and embark on a summer adventure - 7-day’s in the Queensland outback ……. In the middle of summer.

I hear you asking two very important questions (maybe the same questions we secretly asked ourselves too)

1. Who would go to the Australian outback in summer? and;

2. What is there to do for 7 days in the outback?

Well stock up on Lamingtons, start playing Ice house “Great Southern Land” and tuck into a Vegemite sandwich ………. Because we are off to the Outback!!!

Check out our Itinerary below and all the amazing destinations the Queensland Outback has to offer those who make the Journey! – you won’t be disappointed.

Day 1

We spent our first day travelling from Brisbane to a small town called Morven …. Some 655Km away. So many amazing towns on the way through, including Chinchilla, Roma, Mitchell and Charleville – All worth the time to stop and check out.

Day 2

Day two saw us make our way north west through the towns of Augathella, Tambo , Blackall Barcaldine, Ilfracombe and to our destination for tonight Longreach. Once again, each town has a unique history to be discovered by those willing to take the time to stop and take it all in.

Day 3 to 5

We spent these three days soaking up all the activities Longreach and Winton have to offer.

Longreach

· Qantas Founders Museum

· Stockman’s Hall of Fame

· Captain Starlight lookout

Winton

· Australian Age of the Dinosaurs

· National Dinosaur Stampede

· Waltzing Matilda Museum

Day 6 & 7

We spent day 6 travelling East towards Biloela , via the mining towns of Rolleston and Moura and then south back home to the big smoke.

Many of us think that three days is enough to see the outback, But what we don’t realise is the sheer size of this amazing country and the drive form one attraction to the other can be hours . . . but with every passing hour the scenery, the sunset, the animals and the ‘nothingness’’ of the outback are all there to keep you entertained and truly amazed…… no Ipad’s or social media required.

If Road tripping to the outback is on your bucket list , Jump in with both feet and check it out . One thing is for certain, you will not run out of things to do and you will not be disappointed.

Our 7 days in the outback was action packed and full of amazing memories ….. Life in the Australian outback is a vast contrast to life in the big smoke. . .

Check out what we did
